Taxi

Moving by taxi in Athens is easy and cheaper than in other European cities. The taxis in the capital of Greece are yellow. You can either take them at the taxi stands on central spots of the town (airport, port, Syntagma square, outside the stations of the electric railway etc) or just stop them by raising your hand and wave at them at any street.

Taxi drivers, especially the young ones, do speak english at a satisfactory level, so during the route they will also give you some travel advice and info about the city, the islands, things to do etc. They do know a lot about Athens, hotspots, museums, night clubs and they usually try to communicate them, but they will also ask about your country and habits.

Tourists are advised to ask about the cost of the route before getting into the car. Normally, for in town travels, you should pay according to the taxi-meter. However, for travels from or to the ports and the airport, or for daily excursions, you should arrange the price beforehand.
